Could William Gillespie of Lancaster County be the father of Margaret Gillespie, wife of Robert Carruthers?

While no surviving document names the relationship, the land records, church registers, migration patterns, and documented family network of eighteenth-century Pennsylvania place William at the center of one of the strongest historical candidates yet identified.

The surviving records presently identify several adult Gillespie men living within or directly connected to the southern Lancaster County–northern Cecil County frontier during the decades surrounding the 18th century (1710-1770).
